The effect itself ends by the start of next magic round (up to 5 seconds) and will be displayed correctly when paper doll is refreshed by closing and opening again after that. The +5 that remains when Auriel's Shield breaks is just a left-over from Strengthens Armor enchantment in paper doll UI. If you boost Thaumaturgy over 100 through skill enchants, this reduces casting cost to minimum of 5 and you could equip item 300 times before breaking. You could equip item 53 times before it breaks on the 54th. With a Thaumaturgy skill of 100, each equip will damage item by 28HP. So you could equip item 8 times before it breaks on the 9th. With a Thaumaturgy skill of 50, each equip will damage item by 172HP. Spell Breaker for example has 1500HP when new and casts "Spell Reflection" when held, a Thaumaturgy spell. Our formula uses the same coefficients tables and formula as classic here (reverse engineered by Ferital). The startup cost is equal to the casting cost of the spell using player's related magic skill.
The item will then continue to degrade at a low fixed rate so long as it's equipped. This is intended and should match classic.Įquipping any magic item with a Cast When Held enchantment incurs durability loss to the item as a "startup cost" for the enchantment.
